Arctic Sofia made a winning start for Gordon Elliott when claiming the two-mile handicap hurdle at Kilbeggan.

The Arctic Cosmos mare had finished runner-up twice last season and struck first time for her new handler.

Denis O'Regan gave the 5/1 shot a confident ride, producing her to challenge going to the last flight.

She stayed on best on the run-in to record a length-and-a-quarter success over Coral Blue

“She was grand, she jumped well and she was fresh,” said O'Regan.

“I had never rode her before but she had a bit of experience and it stood to her today.

“She won nicely and there should be plenty of fun to be had with her throughout the summer.”
