Cityman produced a game front-running performance to land the spoils in the €25,000 Troytown Bar Handicap at Navan.

Andrew Slattery, riding for his father Andy had the well-backed 8/1 shot (from 20/1 this morning) to the fore throughout in the five-furlong contest.

The Slade Power gelding kept on well inside the final furlong to record a length-and-three-quarter win over English raider Only Spoofing

The trainer's brother and assistant Brian Slattery said afterwards:- “We're delighted with him. He missed a couple of days after Tipperary and he wasn't 100 percent fit today.

“That was even more impressive. We wanted to give him a run today because he's in the Bold Lad next Sunday and he's also in the Ayr Gold Cup.

“We'll see how he comes out of the race and he'll go for either the Ayr Gold Cup or the Bold Lad.

“We thought he'd take the run so we're very impressed. He's a pretty smart horse on his day, when he's right.”
