Sayesse was claimed by new connections following his win in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Claiming Race at Dundalk today as the Gavin Cromwell trained gelding notched up an eighth career win, when scoring under jockey Conor Maxwell.

Previously trained by Mick Channon and Lisa Williamson in Britain, the five year old today won on his second attempt in a Claimer when arriving late to beat Sevenleft by half a length.

Sayesse was subsequently claimed for E9,000 by owner James McAuley, to be trained by Denis Hogan while Sevenleft was claimed for E8,000 by Francis Daly to be trained by Noel Kelly.

The Claimer merry go round continued as Sir Ottoman which finished seventh for owner McAuley and trainer Hogan, was claimed for E8,000 by Derrymartin Bloodstock Ltd and will now join trainer Barry J Fitzgerald.

Following Sayesse's win jockey Maxwell later stated “he was very good. I was unsure about dropping back to seven, he won over seven on the grass but it's a bit quicker here. Things happened a bit quick for him but he toughed it out well.

“He has the gears but he's a bit quirky. He got to the line real well, he was never really travelling early on but he came on to the bridle when I needed him.

“It nearly helped me to have no room for a stride or two because it got him going a bit. He's a little bit quirky, that's why he wears the blinkers.

“We had nowhere to go and it kind of lit him up and he wanted to go. When I pulled him out he sprinted to get there and just did enough in front.

“He ran well in a claimer here two runs ago and I thought he'd go close last week but he never came out of the stalls. We were on the back foot from the word go, he wasn't beaten far but never got into it.

“It was nice to get his head in front around here.”
