Cappacurry Zak (9/2 fav, from 8/1 in the morning) enhanced his fine course record when landing the Goggin Buckley Veterans Handicap Chase.

It was a fourth win at Limerick for the Arakan gelding, three of which have come at Christmas time and in all of which he’s been partnered by 5lbs claimer Ryan Treacy.

Having warmed up with two second place finishes in point-to-points last month, the winner asserted from two out and had a loose horse to lead him home up the run-in.

He scored by four lengths and and a length and a quarter from Flemenstorm (4/1) and Sonny B (12/1).

"He keeps a bit for himself, said winning trainer Lesley Young, and that's probably why he is still racing at his age.

"That's his fourth win here and this race was the plan from the day he came in (during the summer) and we sweetened him up with two runs in point to points and it worked out.

"Looking at him there today he made heavy weather of it and he might need blinkers the next day to help him travel.

"There was plenty of money for him today so that is the job done for now!

"We have ten horses riding out at the moment and I'm looking for more. The 10 I have are a mix of point-to-pointers and track horses."
