Roi Du Mee ran out a facile winner of the John Meagher Memorial Chase at Thurles this afternoon.

Gordon Elliott 's charge was sent off 9/10 favourite to follow up his recent Punchestown success and did so with the minimum of fuss in the 2m6f contest.

Davy Russell sent his mount to the front after the fifth last fence, taking over from the front-running Quarryvale

The field was reduced to four at the next as Ordinary Man crashed out when still in contention in fourth place. Bostons Angel who was being pushed along in third, also took a heavy fall at the third last.

Roi Du Mee was always in control down the straight as he cruised to an 11-length victory over Quarryvale. Ballinahow Lady who had been last of the five runners throughout and was well behind going out on the final circuit, completed in a distant third.

"He's a great little horse. He's not the biggest but if we had a couple more like him it would be great," said Elliott.

"We'll keep him away from the Grade Ones & Twos. He'll keep to those small races and he should pay his way."

It was a quick double for Russell in the Gigginstown colours after claiming the opener on Tillahow
