Normal service was resumed in bumpers after a couple of reverses during the week for Willie and Patrick Mullins. After a trying day for the Mullins camp, Clondaw Court put smiles on the faces when bolting home in the Racing At Punchestown Tomorrow (Pro/Am) Flat Race.

It doesn't look like he was beating much but you couldn't fail to be impressed with the way the former Colin Bowe-trained point-to-pointer disposed of the opposition. Clondaw Court (2/5 fav) effortlessly stretched away up the straight to slam De Glebe Star by an unflattering twenty seven lengths.

Willie Mullins said of Susannah Ricci's £130,000 buy: "He did what he's been showing us at home. He did one bit of very good work and he translated that to the track.

"I had planned to go jumping but we'll have to go for a winners bumper now. He looks good."

Stan James have introduced Clondaw Court into their Cheltenham Festival Bumper betting, making him their 10/1 favourite. (AM & EM)

GRAND NATIONAL - The Northern Challenge

The Sue Smith-trained Auroras Encore was the last northern-trained horse to win the Grand National back in 2013 but recent victories for that part of the country have been thin on the ground since the likes of Lucius, Rubstic and Hallo Dandy in the late 70s early 80’s showed that steeplechasing was in a healthy state north of the Watford Gap with the likes of Gordon W Richards, Denys Smith, Arthur Stephenson, Peter Easterby and Jimmy Fitzgerald capable of holding their own against their southern and Irish counterparts.
