Benefficient could revert to the minimum distance on his next start after running well over three miles at Newbury last week.

Tony Martin's Grade One-winning hurdler looked like taking top honours in the Grade Two GPG Novices' Chase but was worn down close home by Harry Topper.

The two-mile Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Boxing Day, where he would likely meet impressive Fairyhouse winner Arvika Ligeonniere, could be next on his agenda.

"He ran a blinder and just didn't get home on the day at Newbury," said Martin.

"We'll give him a few weeks and he'll be entered up at Christmas.

"I'd imagine he'll probably go to Leopardstown.

"We'll probably go back to two miles with him as he won his Grade One over two and a quarter and he has plenty of pace."
