One leading layers quote of 9/2 about Sherika last night, was obviously viewed as manna from heaven by some punters, as she returned 13/8 for the Gowran Park Thanks All Its Customers In 2012 Mares Handicap Hurdle. She duly got the job done in style to get Derek O'Connor's sister-in-law, Grainne O'Connor off the mark as a trainer under Rules.

Bang-in-form Mark Enright was aboard the lightly-weighted Sherika and from before the last she was getting the better of The Blarney Rose, going on to prevail by five and a half lengths.

Another of the O'Connor clan, Grainne's husband, Paurick said: "That's her first winner. She has a broken leg at the moment – fractured a few weeks ago, and she's in hospital in Limerick at the moment getting the cast changed.

"She has the licence for about three years and has two horses in for the track.

"We've a grand bunch of point-to-pointers and that's our business. It was great to get today out of the way.

"This mare will go to Limerick over Christmas for a hurdle now." (TW & EM)
