The 15th of May 1999 was the last time Ramsgrange, County Wexford handler Richard O'Connor found himself at the number one berth on the racecourse, but he was unexpectedly back in the coveted spot after Dante Anna's 33/1 victory in the Gowran Park Racing Club 2013 Maiden Hurdle.

A daughter of Anshan, Dante Anna had only shown snippets of form in the past and here she was the toast of the bookmakers as she foiled a gamble on Gortroe (14s this morning into 4s), going on from before the last to prevail by seven lengths.

Amateur rider Conor Murphy, son of the winning owner, Laurence, was in the plate. It was the twenty three year old's first winner.

Meanwhile O'Connor only renewed his licence last year having let it lapse for eight or ten years.

Coincidently enough Dante Anna's dam, Lady Of Grange won five races herself, including on this date in 1997. (TW & EM)
