The Eddie Harty trained Fahamore recorded back to back wins in the Guinness Handicap Hurdle at Limerick.

The lightly raced 5yo son of Kayf Tara failed to score on three outings since last year’s success and was racing for the first time since April this afternoon.

Sent off at 4/1 under Niall Madden he hit the front before the last and he stayed on strongly on the run-in to score easily by eight lengths.

See Double You had to settle for second at 10/3 for James Woods and Ronan McNally while Cyprusormilan (10/1) was a further five and a half lengths back in third for the double seeking duo of Jimmy & Paddy Mangan.

The Gordon Elliott trained Raajih was sent off the 3/1 favourite (was 6/1 this morning and backed from 7/2 on-course) under Davy Russell but he could only manage a disappointing seventh.

GRAND NATIONAL - The Northern Challenge

The Sue Smith-trained Auroras Encore was the last northern-trained horse to win the Grand National back in 2013 but recent victories for that part of the country have been thin on the ground since the likes of Lucius, Rubstic and Hallo Dandy in the late 70s early 80’s showed that steeplechasing was in a healthy state north of the Watford Gap with the likes of Gordon W Richards, Denys Smith, Arthur Stephenson, Peter Easterby and Jimmy Fitzgerald capable of holding their own against their southern and Irish counterparts.
