The even money favourite Mazuri Cowboy sent punters home happy at Limerick as he took the Family Fun Beginners Chase for trainer Eoin Doyle.

Ridden by Mikey Butler, the 7yo son of Pilsudski made all the running and travelled best entering the straight.

He stayed on well under presume on the run-in to hold off the late rally of Hatrick Harry under Brian O’Connell for Kevin O’Donnell by three parts of a length.

Eoin Doyle said afterwards: "I got a fright as I thought he wasn’t going to win. 2m 6f is as far as he wants on that kind of ground.

"Mikey said he was idling a bit in front late on. He is rated high enough and we will probably have to go for a handicap with him now."
