Charles Byrnes would like to get another run into Weapon's Amnesty before considering a tilt at the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 9th.
The County Limerick trainer will give the Gigginstown House Stud-owned gelding an entry in the Grade One over three miles but admits Weapon's Amnesty would have to put in a better display than he did on his comeback after a 1,017-day absence at Leopardstown on Friday.
Weapon's Amnesty was pulled up in the Christmas Hurdle won by Monksland in what was his first start since he won the RSA Chase at Cheltenham in March 2010.
"He's come out of the race well. He was just a bit fresh early on and we'll just have to run him again," said Byrnes.
"I'll make an entry for him in the Hennessy but he'll have to show us a lot more than that to justify running in that.
"I could maybe run him again in two to three weeks. It would have to be over hurdles again as there are no chases for him.
"He would have to run a lot better or else you can't run him in the Hennessy off that first run. The next run will tell us a lot.
