Rocknrollrambo ran out a convincing winner of the 2m6f maiden hurdle at Thurles as another odds-on shot flopped.

War Correspondent was sent off 4/7 favourite but was under pressure from a long-way out in the race and eventually finished a well-beaten seventh.

Rocknrollrambo, under Paddy Kennedy, had taken over from front-runner Sasa Semo at the fourth last and asserted from nearest pursuer Sophies Shadow entering the straight.

20/1 shot Mimi And Bow came through for second but never looked like getting to the winner, going down by three-and-a-half lengths.

The 7/1 winner was making his 'track debut' having been runner-up in two point-to-points last month and had attracted some support from 12/1 before racing.

“We thought he'd win at Dromahane last time but he was beaten by a newcomer and it looked a good race,” said trainer Eugene O'Sullivan.

“We've always thought a lot of him. He was also second at Ballindenisk and the horse that was third then won by 20 lengths on Sunday.

“He's really a three-mile chaser. We'll go for a winners of one hurdle somewhere now if he is not sold.

“He'll probably go chasing next year and is a lovely horse.”
