Argocat has emerged as a fascinating contender for the Jewson Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

The Tom Taaffe-trained five-year-old has made a most accomplished start over fences this season, culminating in an eight-length victory in a Grade Two on heavy ground at Limerick on Boxing Day.

"He put up a very good performance in Limerick and did what I expected of him," said County Kildare-based Taaffe.

"His jumping has been very good thus far and when he's doing everything the right way like that, you just hope he can keep on doing it.

"The obvious race is the Jewson - that's what he's been aimed at all along - but he'll also have entries in two other races so we can see where we are with the ground and so on.

"I've always said I think he'll be a better horse on better ground."
