John Wilson appointed DBS General Manager

John Wilson has been appointed DBS General Manager and will take up his new role on 20th February.

John has been a Steward at Ayr, Carlisle, Hamilton and Newcastle racecourses since 1995 and has a long experience in the racing and bloodstock worlds having trained successfully for 15 years, 7 of these from Cree Lodge Stables in Ayr, until handing in his licence in 1991.

His biggest successes came in the 1985 Supreme Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival which he won with Harry Hastings in a then course record time and Young Driver’s gallant second to West Tip in the following years Grand National.

He also enjoyed success on the flat with the likes of Ayr Classic winning the Dalton Stakes at York and Cal Norma’s Lady winning at Newmarket, going on to be the dam of Donna Blini, the Group 1 winning 2 year old.

For the last nine years John has been a manager for Dingbro, a large Vehicle Parts and Diagnostic Product Company in Scotland, following the sale of his family business Taggart and Wilson to Lucas UK in 1998.

His passion, enthusiasm and interest in horses and bloodstock has never dimmed and he has remained a regular racegoer and attended several DBS Sales over the years. Indeed, John was a major client at DBS throughout his training career, regularly appearing on the leading buyers lists so is well versed in the needs of the huge and varied DBS client base.
