With no racing on home soil today attentions turn to the action in England where there are three meetings over the jumps today.

The going is not surprisingly set to be testing at all the venues.

The ground is heavy at Sandown, with the back straight soft, after a dry night.

The Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novice Chase is the highlight where Nicky Henderson's exciting prospect Captain Conan is currently a 4/9 shot.

Ffos Las stages the Welsh Champion Hurdle and the going there is heavy after 2mm of rain overnight.

Henderson again has the current favourite in the handicap event in top weight Oscara Dara (currently 7/2).

The other meeting holding a jumps card is Wetherby and it's soft, heavy in places there after 0.5mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

The Grade 2 Towtown Novice Chase is the feature event and former Irish point-to-point winner Goulanes is trading as 9/4 favourite for his chase debut.

There is also action on the all-weather at Lingfield today.

With origins that go back to the mid-nineteenth century, there are no signs that the popularity of this spectacular festival of racing are diminishing here or in the UK. If anything, the live television coverage it now has brings it to an even wider audience today than it has ever enjoyed before. Betting still remains an important part of the festival for many who attend and the 2017 event will be no exception.
