Red Sherlock, who ran away with a Towcester bumper on his racecourse debut earlier this week, is to be aimed at the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival next month.

The son of smart chaser Lady Cricket and a half-brother to the useful Swing Bowler, Red Sherlock scooted clear up the hill to win by 23 lengths, leaving even his trainer impressed.

"I don't know quite what he beat, but he couldn't have been any more impressive," David Pipe told At The Races.

"The plan will be to give him one more run in another bumper and if he wins that to go to Cheltenham with him. I don't know how good he is, but somebody said to me that he was the best chance of an English-trained horse beating the Irish in the race."

Red Sherlock is a 14/1 chance for the Cheltenham race with Sky Bet.
