The talented conditional was riding outsider Mr Hyde in the Racing Plus Chase for boss Jonjo O'Neill but his mount crashed out at the first fence.

Linehan has suffered two broken vertebrae and also broken his sternum.

The jockey tweeted this morning:- “Thanks for all the tweets.. Broke two vertebra and my chest bone.. ”

His boss O'Neill said: "He's broken his sternum and has broken two vertebrae.

"He's still in hospital for a few days and we will see what happens when it all settles down a bit.

"He'll be out for a little while. I'm no doctor, but from experience I'd say he'd be out for a couple of months."
