The Tom Taaffe trained Argocat claimed his second Grade 2 contest at Limerick today, winning the three runner Hugh McMahon Memorial Novice Chase, completing a double on the day for jockey Bryan Cooper.

The race, in common with many of the races today, cut up badly due to the drying ground with Tofino Bay and Vesper Bell taken out leaving Argocat in a match with Shabra Charity following the early fall of Noras Fancy

Argocat led on the bridle after two out before stretching five lengths clear of Shabra Charity at the line.

Afterwards Taaffe joked “I think I once got a walkover as a jockey but today's win was nice! It was unfortunate for the sponsors though (with so few runners) as we need as many sponsors as we can at present.

“Things didn't happen for him at Cheltenham but I told Bryan (Cooper) to just school around today. I think he's a better horse on better ground and Bryan said he he wasn't suited by the slow pace. He'll go for the Grade 1 over three miles at Punchestown next.”
