Mossey Joe could go for a big prize next month if he recovers from his successful exertions at Stratford.

The Summer Plate at Market Rasen on July 20 and the Galway Plate at the Ballybrit track on July 31 remain possible targets for the 10-year-old, who ran his rivals ragged to win the Stratford Foxhunters Champion Hunters' Chase on Friday.

However, trainer Declan McNamara will monitor Mossey Joe's condition as the return journey from his County Clare base took a lot out of the horse.

"He wouldn't have travelled over great," said McNamara.

"We were a bit worried about him for the first couple of days. We took him over four days in advance. It was enough time for him to recover and he was OK on the day of the race.

"The travelling took a fair bit out of him. It was to be expected as he's a highly-strung horse, but he travelled well enough to win.

"We probably won't make any decisions for a week or two. He needs to put on a good bit of weight.

"We'll see if he recovers quickly enough or if he needs a break. If he bounces back, the Galway Plate would be a possibility or we might go for the Summer Plate in Market Rasen.

"The original plan was for him to be ready to run back towards the end of July, so hopefully that plan will still work out.

"He's definitely a good-ground horse so we'd hoping he might pick up another race before the ground turns heavy."
