Miss Mousey and Colin Keane got first run on Backdrop and stayed on stoutly in the final furlong to win the fillies’ maiden at Dundalk.
The 14/1 shot forged through to lead over a furlong from home and kept up the gallop as Backdrop was switched out to challenge her.
There was three parts of a length in it at the finish as Backrop remained in second. She was well punted on-course from 2/1 to 13/8 favouritism.
Paul Deegan’s Cultured Lady cut out the fractions from gate one, and kept on for third, beaten three and a half lengths at 12/1.
Ger Lons trained the winner and his brother Shane, the assistant trainer, said: “That’ll keep the owner happy [trainer Eddie Lynam], he’s very difficult! It could be The Muppets Syndicate as Ger, Andy Oliver and Eddie Lynam all train a horse for each other!
“She showed a bit of speed early doors, but it was always cheap speed as she was immature. We gave her a break after her last run and got a bit of summer grass into her.
“After her break she was training really well. We thought it was either this or a nursery, but she hadn’t got her mark yet so we decided to take our chance here.
“We were quietly confident. She saw it out well and she’s progressive. The young lad is full of confidence and his 3lb claim helped.”
Miss Mousey was the most experienced horse in the race with four previous runs. Her best finish had been third in Bellewstown last-time out.
