Bill Turner's Abscent Friends got first-season sire Showcasing off the mark last week. He was second on start two at Newmarket today and the Whitsbury Manor Stud stallion got another winner on the board courtesy of the impressive Sean Jones-owned, Ger Lyons-trained Cappella Sansevero in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction Maiden at Dundalk.
It could augur well for the other 'babies' at Glenburnie Stables that Cappella Sansevero didn't get a mention in a recent Racing Post stable tour because he accomplished what was very much expected of him here (went off at 4/7) with a fair degree of ease.
He dwelt and was held up behind the leaders by Gary Carroll. Fourth travelling well over two furlongs out, the Racing Post yearling bonus scheme qualifier (10K) led over a furlong out before staying on strongly to defeat Ace Of Arts by an unflattering five and a half lengths.
Shane Lyons spoke afterwards and he said: "I'm delighted with that. He's a nice horse.
"He's very professional at home and he was very professional today.
"We'll try and find a winners race for him and take baby steps.
"He's a really good mover and we couldn't be happier with him."
This exciting juvenile is seemingly named after a chapel in the historic centre of Naples, Italy. It contains works of art by some of the leading Italian artists of the 18th century.
P.J. Smullen, rider of Cleveland Street trained by John James Feane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran green and raced reluctantly.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Cleveland Street, trained by John James Feane, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
