Elleval is likely to make an appearance on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown following a creditable effort in defeat at York.

The four-year-old landed a valuable handicap at the Dubai Carnival at Meydan earlier in the year and has run creditably in stakes company on a number of occasions since returning to Ireland.

He was not beaten far into sixth when the prolific Custom Cut landed the Strensall Stakes on the Knavesmire and trainer David Marnane is pleased with how his charge is performing.

He said: "He ran a good race in York and on ratings he probably ran close to the best race of his career.

"Custom Cut is a horse in the form of his life and Trade Storm (second) is a good horse. We were only beaten a couple of lengths and it was a good run.

"The pace of the race probably didn't suit us. He's a horse who needs to be flat-out at halfway and he certainly wasn't, but we're not making excuses.

"He'll probably go for the mile and a quarter race, the Enterprise Stakes (September 13), on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown."
