Pale Mimosa's participation in the Emirates Melbourne Cup could "go either way", according to the Australian recruiting team behind the great race.

Trained by Dermot Weld, who has won the Flemington centrepiece two times, the five-year-old mare claimed the Lonsdale Cup at York in August, but could then only finish fifth in the Irish St Leger at the weekend.

But Leigh Jordon, Racing Victoria's international recruiting scout, spoke to Weld on Monday evening and has not given up hope that Pale Mimosa, who would have to carry 55kg, could still travel to Australia.

He told The Age: "I think they want a few days to digest what's happened at the Curragh last weekend and I think a decision could go either way."
