The former Joe Murphy trained Vert De Grece has landed the Group 1 Criterium International Stakes at Saint-Cloud this afternoon on his first start for Roger Varian.

The grey son of Verglas routed his opposition in France, scoring by four lengths at odds of 7/2.

The Irish bred colt has now entered the reckoning for next season's English 2000 Guineas with leading bookmakers Paddy Power quoting odds of 20/1.

Vert De Grece had three starts in Ireland when in the care of Murphy including a Leopardstown maiden victory and a gallant second to Gleneagles in the Group 2 Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh in August.
