Noel Meade has his fingers crossed Road To Riches will be able to handle the soft conditions he is likely to encounter in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown on December 28.

The seven-year-old should be a leading fancy for the three-mile feature following his convincing win in the Jnwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal at the beginning of this month.

The ground was just yielding that day and the going is expected to be more testing at that time of year.

"We go to Christmas and we'll see what happens. Whether he goes in the softer ground, I suppose that's going to tell the story whether he can show as much on that or not," Meade told At The Races.

"You'd have thought on his breeding he'd want fast ground. That would be my one concern about how we get on at Christmas.

"After he won in the north we let him down for a bit and we're winding him up again for Christmas.

"It's everybody's dream to have one good enough to run in the Gold Cup and at the moment the dream is still alive."
