A.P. Heskin, rider of Like It A Lot (GB), trained by Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered accidental interference after the second last. L.P. Dempsey, rider of Bentelimar, trained by J.R. Barry, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount caught a heel on the turn for home after the second last hurdle. The Stewards enquired into two instances of possible interference from the turn into the straight involving Bentelimar, ridden by L.P. Dempsey, placed first and Sir Abbot, ridden by A.P. McCoy, placed second, where it appeared in the first incident that Bentelimar caught a heel off Sir Abbot and in the second incident close home where Sir Abbot ran short of room on the rails. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge's placings. The Stewards however were of the opinion that L.P. Dempsey was in breach of Rule 214 by riding carelessly and having taken his record into account suspended him for two race days. The Stewards interviewed L.P. Dempsey, rider of Bentelimar, concerning his use of the whip in closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that L.P. Dempsey was in breach of Regulation 10 3(e) by using his whip other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters and having taken his record into account suspended him for one race day. The Stewards gave permission for the first race to be run as the seventh race on the card due to frost on the chase track early in the day.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs yrs old and upwards that have not won a hurdle race before 4th May, 2014 and that are EBF eligible and have not run as a two or three yr old under any Rules of Racing (130 = 11st 10lb) Weights - Top weight in the original hadicap; shall not be less than 11st 10lb Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each hurdle race won. Any horse rated above 130 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 130 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 130 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
