The Stewards interviewed W.J. Lee, rider of Northern Surprise, concerning the fact that he appeared to move across before reaching the marker poles. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered evidence from the rider, the Stewards found W.J. Lee in breach of Rule 211 by failing to ride in a straight line until reaching the Marker Poles and having taken his good record into account the Stewards severely cautioned the rider concerning his compliance with this rule in future. The Stewards interviewed K.J. Leonard, rider of Jackemil, concerning the fact that he appeared to move across before reaching the marker poles. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered evidence from the rider, in the presence of John J. Walsh, trainer, the Stewards found K.J. Leonard in breach of Rule 211 by failing to ride in a straight line until reaching the Marker Poles and having taken his good record into account the Stewards severely cautioned the rider regarding his compliance with this rule in future.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (70 = 10st) Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 70 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 70 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 70 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap) Horses which receive a published weight of 8st 3lb or less will be entitled to a 50% reduction in entry fee. Should they be declared to run they will then become liable for the full amount of the cost to run.
