D.P. McDonogh, rider of Archibald Thorburn trained by Aidan Anthony Howard, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was checked badly shortly after the stalls and almost fell. The Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after leaving the stalls involving A Likely Story, ridden by L.F. Roche, Rose Anjou (GB), ridden by R.P. Whelan, Colombe Bleu (GB), ridden by K.P. Moriarty, Tom Dooley, ridden by C.D. Hayes and Archibald Thorburn, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, where it appeared Archibald Thorburn ran short of room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that K.P. Moriarty was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having considered his previous good record in this regard, the Stewards suspended him for three racedays.
