J.A. Heffernan, rider of East India (GB) trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount gurgled in-running. The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of East India (GB), trained by A.P.O'Brien, concerning the apparent easing of his mount close home, where it appeared he lost fifth place. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had done his best to be placed all the way up the straight, his mount had choked on the turn-in and was leading with the wrong leg from the turn. Given that he felt the horse had run his race and was gurgling in-running he eased off him close home. He had recommended to the trainer that the horse may benefit from being ridden more patiently in future. He had reported to the Clerk of the Scales that the horse had gurgled on his return to the weigh room. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered but reminded J.A. Heffernan of his responsibilities in this regard. .
