The Stewards requested a report from Paul W. Flynn, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of The Ring Is King, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Paul W. Flynn reported that his charge disappointed at Leopardstown 18th June for no apparent reason but on subsequent examination at home it was advised that the gelding should have a wind operation. He reappeared at Curragh 9th August following this operation and ran in a higher class of handicap but was unable to quicken off a slow early pace. He added that his charge has run well on tighter tracks, was a previous winner here at Sligo over hurdles, had been dropped 8lbs and had his weight further reduced by a 7lb claiming Apprentice. He also felt that the longer trip tonight and the easier underfoot conditions were further contributing factors to tonights victory. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report. The Stewards fined T.J. O'Mara, trainer, ?350 for failing to lodge a passport in respect of Castle Bar Sling (USA), for a vaccination spot check in accordance with the provisions of Rule 90. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
