An enquiry was held to consider whether Sean Houlihan, the rider of Show On The Road (GB), which finished last of six finishers, beaten 126½ lengths, had continued in the race when it appeared to be contrary to the horse’s welfare having clambered over the final fence when well detached from the rest of the field.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that a post-race examination of Show On The Road (GB) during routine testing revealed it to be showing signs of mild exhaustion and blowing hard.
Houlihan was suspended for 6 days.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Thedrinkymeister (IRE), which was pulled up, bled from the nose.
