Patuano She had a few races on the all-weather and just didn't enjoy racing after that so I gave her a good break to come back for the slightest bit of cut. I thought the ground would be a bit quick today but she stuck at it well and did a good time (58.53 seconds). She travelled well the whole way and I thought she might get a bit tired but she loved it.

Solar Halo it’s a nice way to lose her maiden tag but I thought last night with the 18mm of rain that the ground was gone for us. I told Billy (Lee) to get a bit of cover and that didn’t work out either but she was very game and hit the line hard - as the Americans would say.

Zamira John (Malone) bought her at the sales last November (for €20,000) and sent her to me. She's as game as a pebble and Billy said he didn't go fast enough on her in Navan. It's great to get a win for a well-bred filly like that. She was covered recently by Exceed And Excel so hopefully she is in foal and that would be a great double up for the owners.

Tommy Hallinan Declan (McDonogh) loved him and while I was hoping for an ease today, he moved brilliantly and seemed to love it. He was in great form but was doing nothing by staying at home so I had to run him. He’s the only horse I have for Michael Ryan and that’s also our first winner together.

Aurora Butterfly We were on a hiding to nothing as if you don't win you're an eejit and if you win, sure you should have!. Billy said she just idled but to win is great as she is a very well bred filly. She is a half-sister to Diamond Green and is the last filly out of the mare and Maurice Burns in Rathasker Stud bred her. She'd prefer a little ease but I had to run her as there were only three declarations. However they have done a great job on the ground here and it's lovely. She was unlucky the last day, when beaten by two heads for third in a Listed race, and it's all about black-type now - black-type is the only thing we want now!

Virtudes she (Virtudes) was too disappointing the first day as she's been working well and Billy (Lee) just thought the softer ground caught her out. She travelled well and I suppose the experience helped her there today. I would have been very disappointed if she hadn't run well today. It's nice to get a winner in those colours, it's important for me and we'll see now where we go. The other filly, Realt Rua, finished third there for the Irish National Stud, so they are happy as well.

Bumbasina She ran a lovely race last year. I thought the ground might be a little bit gone for her, she is as lazy as hell,. If she turns out as good as her half-sister (Dolce Strega) she will be doing okay. She has a good way of going and she is very honest. She just realised what she was doing in the last 100 yards, and I liked the way she stuck her head down and galloped on to the line. We will try and find a bit of black-type for her somewhere or we might go for a winners of one or a fillies race. I might give her a bit more experience.

Peticoatgovernment We're delighted with that. That was the plan, we had a nice draw. Billy (Lee) couldn't do the weight so I says Nathan is there all summer and comes in every Saturday. He makes the effort to come up from Tipperary and is a grand young fella. She's a pretty straightforward filly to ride so I says I'll take the punt and throw him on. You have to give a young lad a chance. He's putting in the effort so he'll get a chance. She's a tough, hardy, little mare. By the end of the year we'll try and get a bit of black-type. She'll go to the sales at the end of the year. We'll keep going around a stiff five. She's pretty ground versatile.
