The opening race on the final day of the Cork Easter Festival, the Friday Evening Racing at Cork Racecourse Qualified Riders Maiden Hurdle over 3m, went to Cnoc Seoda for the father and son team of Declan Queally junior and senior.

Owned and bred by the trainer's wife Bernie, the bay mare has two point-to-point wins to her name those victories coming at Dromahane in November 2009 and Affane in November of last year.

She also has some good track form to her name as she was placed four times in bumper company including finishing second in a Listed bumper at Navan in November 2010 behind Catcherinscratcher.

Last time out she finished second to Galianna in a maiden hurdle over 2m at Navan.

Stepped up to 3m for the first time on the racecourse today, the 7yo daughter of Dr Massini was given a beautifully judged waiting ride from Declan Queally.

Having settled in mid-division for much of the race she then improved into sixth as they approached the third last. She hit the front before two out and went clear from before the last, staying on well to score easily by seven lengths.

Scarton for Michael Winters finished second at 7/1 while the 9/4 favourite The Amarillo Kid was a further half a length back in third under Gerry Mangan for trainer Willie Codd.

Winning trainer Declan Queally Senior said afterwards: "She has had a dose of seconditis.

"Her best run came when she finished second in a Listed bumper at Navan (November 2010) and she wasn’t winning out of turn today.

"She will stay on the go now for the summer provided she stays sound." (DM & AM)
