ZIHUATANEJO triumphed under Barry O’Neill that afternoon, in the six-year-old and upwards geldings’ maiden. He brought the best form into that contest, as he finished second to Nicky Henderson’s recent Grade One-placed novice chaser, Champagne Platinum, at Quakerstown on his only previous start in April 2018. A subsequent 22-month lay-off didn’t inconvenience the successful son of Flemensfirth, as he made all the running to defeat the previous weekend’s Ballyvodock runner-up, Rwegoinhigh, by a cosy one and a half lengths. Zihuatanejo goes in the Big Zeb silks of Gorey hotelier Paddy Redmond. Davy Russell has been booked for the spin now and the six-year-old gelding should be right there at the business end. There are several others in the line-up that look capable of making an impression.
