FormscanBy Tom Weekes - Two mega-mares do battle here, along with 2018 Stayers Hurdle winner Penhill, with preference for BENIE DES DIEUX. Nine year old BENIE DES DIEUX has raced just eight times since running her final race for French connections in November 2015 but has been a high achiever for trainer Willie Mullins, winning four Grade 1 races, the latest of which was at Autueil in May. She makes her seasonal debut today and while her lack of a recent run is a slight concern, her trainer targets this local meeting and she was in super form last season. Apple's Jade herself has won 11 Grade 1 races and came back to what appeared to be her best when landing an inspired gamble at Leopardstown over Christmas. Her earlier form this season, and latterly last-term, was underwhelming but she clearly remains top class on her day. Interestingly the handicapper has left Apple's Jade unchanged at 157 following her Leopardstown rout and a negative for her, is she has twice (in spring 2018) failed to beat BENIE DES DIEUX, when the pair met at Cheltenham and Punchestown. Dual Cheltenham festival winner Penhill won the 2018 Stayers Hurdle before being humbled by Faugheen the following month. However he subsequently was absent for 584 days and has yet to show the same old sparkle. He did stay on to reasonable effect at Leopardstown over Christmas but still needs to progress much more to win today. Gardens Of Babylon is useful and while he hasn't shown Grade 1 ability yet, it is interesting connections have upped him to three miles today, from two miles, although he is surely best watched for today's experiment. Death Duty was a fine sort in the past but is also best watched on comeback today. %0A
