FormscanBy Tom Weekes - CHERIF DE L'ISLE is a lightly raced type who can win on his third start for Gordon Elliott today. His only previous win came on his second career start at Nancy in October 2016 and while he has been lightly raced, reappeared following a 709 days absence when running well on debut for Elliott here in November. He replicated that finishing position again here subsequently and while he failed to quicken in the closing stages, connections have reached for first-time cheek-pieces today which could bring about some improvement with Davy Russell back in the saddle. Sir Bob is also tried in first-time cheek-pieces and reverts to hurdling following a poor round of jumping over fences at Fairyhouse in January. His hurdles' mark is 15lbs below his chase rating and while he has strong claims on his best form, is on something of a retrieval mission today. Punitive won an ordinary maiden hurdle for unplaced horses at Limerick in November and while he uexited at halfway at Leopardstown over Christmas, is interesting today. He has top weight but is helped by his rider's 7lbs claim and is proven over trip and ground.
