The son of Raven's Pass showed plenty of potential as a juvenile as he got off the mark in Leopardstown, on debut in June last year, with Dermot Weld marking him out as a potential stakes horse afterwards. That view was cemented when he finished third and second in Group company at the same track in the autumn. His dam, Masiyma, won twice over a mile and a half. The Aidan O'Brien pair of Western Australia, who is highest rated on 107 (1lb above Masaff), and Chablis provide a stiff challenge to Dermot Weld's colt. The former has a bit to prove after finishing fifth when favourite for the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket on his latest outing last month, though. Expensive-purchase Chablis was beaten less than three lengths into fifth in a Group Three at Naas recently and has plenty of potential, despite having plenty to find on ratings. Pythion would need to find more from his seasonal debut when seventh in a Derby Trial at Leopardstown last Sunday.
