FormscanBy Alan Magee - ENCORE LUI showed some promise over hurdles last season and ran a cracker on his first completed handicap start when reappearing over this course and distance a fortnight ago. The Liz Doyle-trained gelding, who was collared in the closing stages by the fast-finishing Dollys Destination, handles testing ground and a 3lb rise in the ratings seems fair. Spruced Up also carries the colours of JP McManus and it will be interesting to see how strong she is in the market following three maiden outings the best of which was on soft ground at this venue back in the spring. State Of Cognac, who gained earlier experience in bumpers, has a similar profile also making his handicap debut after three fairly consistent efforts in maidens earlier this year. Riverdene was off for a year after beating all bar Mount Hanover in a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle and, after edging down the ratings, has shown promise recently in handicaps including behind Fit To Be Tied at Cork.
