FormscanBy Tom Weekes - There have been better renewals of this Champion Bumper run and Cheltenham Bumper-fourth ABACADABRAS is tipped despite falling nicely short of being the best bumper horse in the country. He proved no match for Envoi Allen in two bumpers in February, at Leopardstown when running out through the rail late-on, and in March at Cheltenham although that later run was indeed a fine effort when finishing fourth. Surprisingly he is the only horse from that Cheltenham race to line-up here and today's race looks a slightly lesser one than in the Cotswolds. Willie Mullins' pair Golden Spread and Mt Leinster are closely enough matched on recent Fairyhouse form and both are clearly smart performers. It is interesting Patrick Mullins sticks with Mt Leinster, a half-brother to the yard's talented Blackstairmountain, but Mt Leinster was 7.5L behind Envoi Allen at Leopardstown in February, when also held by ABACADABRAS. Golden Spread seems quiet progressive and should get involved as a consistent performer. Both Embittered and Beacon Lodge, third and fourth in the Leopardstown February bumper respectively, return from a mini-break today and while both weren't too far behind the selection when he ran out, ABACADABRAS has at least proven his progression since at Cheltenham. Santa Rossa is already a Grade 2 winner and while she was beaten at Aintree recently, that was a smart Grade 2 race also against geldings and she now comes here proven and consistent in this type of race. Colreevy is in her second-season in bumpers and while she capable, needs to improve from her recent Fairyhouse comeback run.
