Sunny South West added to bumper wins at Clonmel and Tipperary earlier this year when successfully switching to hurdles in the Buy Tickets On corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle.

The Sean Dalton-owned 5/4 favourite made virtually all and asserted approaching the last where a fine leap settled the issue.

He kept on well on the run-in under Phillip Enright to beat William Tell by five and a half lengths with That Danny Feeling a further two and a quarter lengths adrift in third.

Winning trainer Eddie Power said, “I’m very happy with him. In time he’ll want two and a half and that’s probably where we’ll go the next day in Galway.

“He never jumped those rubber hurdles before and was jumping Easyfix hurdles quite well at home. He had a look at a few of them but will come on a lot from that.

“He was probably travelling too well and had too much time to think about it going down to the jumps.

“He’s a horse with plenty of ability and we’ll keep trying till we find exactly how good he is.

“There is a two and a half mile novice in Galway on the Thursday. Ross (O’Sullivan) won it with a horse called Donnie Devito last year that I sold to him.”
