Owner/trainer Barry Connell is expecting the veteran Enniskerry to put it up to his younger rivals in Thursdays Guinness Galway Hurdle.

Following a hugely encouraging reappearance when second in the Grimes Hurdle in Tipperary earlier this month, the gelding has Connell excited about his prospects.

Speaking to Dave Kenna, the trainer said: "He ran in the amateur race last year and we were toying with looking at that but he ran so well in the Grimes (Hurdle), the Grade 3 in Tipperary; probably the race of his life. Hard to believe it at the age he is now, he is 11 years of age.

"He was 6lb wrong with the winner (Jesse Evans) as well that day. We are 3lb better off. He loves the track. He has won around there before and, he's in great form.

"I think he has all the attributes you need for a Galway Hurdle; a great jumper, plenty of speed, he can hold his position and that (Tipperary) was his first run of the year so I think he's entitled to come forward for the run.

"It looks an open race this year so, I'd be hopeful he'd be very competitive. He's in great form and I think you need a horse that travels and jumps there and I think he'll do that so, I'd be disappointed if he's not in the money."
