Donagh Meyler was niggling at favourite Oighear Dubh (translates across to English as Black Ice) from a fair way out in the opening Kilbeggan Opportunity Maiden Hurdle. The Kilkenny jockey had a willing partner in the Verglas grey though, and Tony Martin's charge came out on top by two and a half lengths.

Intifadah could have been backed at as big as 66/1 earlier for the Frank Gillane Memorial Maiden Hurdle at Tramore. He certainly didn't go un-supported for the second event at the Graun Hill venue. Those that were 'on' were rewarded when Paddy Griffin's charge came home victorious under Jonathan Burke.
