Apprentice jockey Daryl Byrne won his third race in a week when taking the opening Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap at Cork on the Harry Rogers trained Gandolfini. Sat 17th Oct

After race at Sligo Wed, 4th Aug, 2010 (1st)

He probably deserved that. He ran well at Cork last time when it was too short of a trip for him,. The ground helped as he likes a good ease. That's why he (Smullen) is champion jockey. It's unfortunate for Daryl (Byrne) though who couldn't do the weight. I might run him again at the Curragh this weekend over six furlongs.

He's a nice horse and he deserved that and it's great for Daryl. There's not really a whole lot left for him on the grass and I'd say the handicapper might have caught up with him. There might be a race in Dundalk we'll have a look but he'll put away then until next season.

Gandolfini deserved that win and was unlucky up the North two runs back when he couldn't get a run. Daryl gave him a good ride and we'll go for something similar again next.
