Thu 25th Jul
Chris Hayes, earlier successful aboard Master Speaker (8/1) in the third, completed a double in race five on the card at Killarney when guiding Franklyn to victory at odds of 11/1 in the 1m 3f handicap for three-year-olds. Aidan Howard’s handicap debutant kept on strongly to defeat the 3/1 favourite Ellaat by two and a quarter lengths, with Full Moon Magic (9/1) a further length and a quarter back in third. It resulted in a 107/1 double for the County Limerick-born rider.

It wasn’t the plan to make it. I was hoping to get a bit of cover but he bounced out and Chris said he loved it and handled the soft as well. The last day he was too fresh and keen and didn’t get home. He is a keen horse but today he settled great. They went very steady the last day and it was a bit too far. The lads at home have done a great job as he is a bit kinky.

I'm very happy to win with him before the handicapper got to him. He got 11lb after Killarney so I had to come here today. I was very much afraid of the ground, that's as quick as he wants it, and afraid of the trip too. This was the only option I had. I had him in on Monday but it was a lot to ask to go to Killarney from the Curragh and then travel him to Ballinrobe as well. We'll give him a couple of weeks in the field now and find something in a month or six weeks. He's only three and is still maturing, he's a grand horse.
