Harry Skelton is looking forward to getting into the spirit of the Galway Festival when he returns to the west of Ireland with Azzuri next week.

Azzuri was fourth in a staying handicap on the Flat 12 months ago, but has higher aspirations this time around with entries in the two biggest races of the seven-day Festival.

The Dan Skelton-trained seven-year-old, who has Irish owners, will strut his stuff in either thetote.com Galway Plate or the Guinness Galway Hurdle.

“He’s a good jumper and he likes to get along with things. He rolls away and the only thing is whether he will see the trip out,” said Skelton.

“The owners are from Ireland and they are raring to go. That’s what Galway does — everyone wants to be part of it and more so if you are an Irishman.

“That’s why we are going and hopefully he will have a chance.

“As far as festivals go, I’d say it’s one of the biggest of the whole racing calendar.

“The whole of Ireland basically turns up and they really enjoy it. It’s great to be a part of it and there’s always a massive buzz about it.”
