From early shows of 1/2, Constitution River ultimately justified 1/5 favouritism in the Eventus Irish EBF Maiden.

Beaten by just a short head on debut at Newmarket earlier this month, the Aidan O'Brien-trained bay made all this evening.

Almost joined by Contrary To Law from halfway, he extended his advantage when ridden from early in the straight, ultimately powering to a three-and-three-quarters of a length win under Wayne Lordan.

The Joseph O'Brien-trained Spangled Sands (11/1) came through to take second, while fellow debutant Daary (14/1) was another two-and-three-quarters of a length away in third.

"He had a very good run in a nice maiden in Newmarket and with normal improvement coming here you’d think he'd put up a good display," Chris Armstrong, stable representative, commented.

"He was very green and Wayne said he was looking at the camera on his inside, but he went to the line with plenty still left in him. The experience around here will do him the world of good.

"He's a colt with a touch of class and is one to look forward to going into the second half of the season. I suppose he puts himself into the Futurity mix with the rest of them and the lads will divide them up and see where they go."
