Producing a decent effort when finishing third, Shane Foley reported that Baker Blue was a little green in the final furlong so you would imagine that outing has been a good learning experience. With that in mind, Baker Blue is entitled to show some improvement second time up. The son of Ardad was a 65,000 guineas purchase and his pedigree suggests he’ll want further in time. His sire was a fast horse, however, and may well have instilled enough speed in him to win over this sort of trip. 19:20 Cork - Dark Viper Another runner from Harrington’s yard that could taste success at Cork is Dark Viper, who has jockey Keithen Kennedy claiming 2lb and that could come in handy. The four-year-old gelding was a pretty consistent performer last season but still remained a maiden, despite finishing second no fewer than seven times in 2024. Another runners-up effort came at the Curragh over 6f in March before the Dan Kiely-owned charge shed his maiden tag at Leopardstown 14 days later over a mile. Flying home to land the spoils late on, Dark Viper is clearly adaptable with regards to trip so he shouldn’t be too bothered by the drop down to 7f for this outing. The handicapper responded with a 5lb rise for that victory, but two of those are offset by jockey Kennedy’s claim and another massive run is anticipated. 20:20 Cork - Warrior Lord This race won’t go down as the strongest handicap to be run at Cork and several in the field look pretty exposed, but that isn’t the case for Joseph Murphy’s Warrior Lord, who makes his handicap debut. The four-year-old has a decent enough pedigree and the step up in trip to 1m 2f should be a big help. Showing little in his first three starts, the son of Saxon Warrior wasn’t given too hard a time and those runs served the purpose of getting him a handicap mark. An opening mark of 54 looks reasonable and he should be capable of better, now tackling handicaps.
