Year in, year out he does it and west Cork trainer John Murphy duly got amongst the winners at Killarney with 8/1 chance Charterhouse in the one-mile handicap for older horses.

A talented juvenile and placed in the Ruby Stakes at the August meeting here last year, the winner bounced back from a poor run in Listed company at the Curragh to confirm his trainer's revival in form after Hotrocket provided him with his first success of the season at Fairyhouse last week.

Scott McCullagh slotted his mount into third and Charterhouse led over two furlongs out before battling on well to hold Hale Bopp by half a length.

McCullagh said: "He is a quirky sort with plenty ability and was back in handicap company having been running in Listed races, with the 5lb off. He hit the line well.

"It's my first winner here and I'm delighted to ride a first winner for Mr Murphy. All his horses seem to run well around here and he always gets a few winners."
