Elegant Lass made just about every yard of the running to make a winning chase debut in the opening Three Ireland Rated Novice Chase at Tramore.

Jumping well for the most part, aside from a couple of understandable novicey errors, the Tom Gibney trained mare kept on strongly to see off the attentions of race favourite Pythion

The latter, who had really impressed when winning in handicap company at this track last time, looked a serious threat two out but mistakes at the final two obstacles ended his hopes.

The winner, a fair handicap hurdler at her best, had lost her way somewhat in recent times but appeared to really appreciate the switch to fences.

Winning rider Eoin Walsh said; "I spoke to Tom beforehand and the plan was to bounce out and keep it simple. She had a bit of course form too which meant a lot.

"That's my first time riding her and my first-time riding for Tom as a professional so we are off to a good start. I've five winners left on my five-pound claim and we'll enjoy this one anyway."
